seeking security in a time of uncertainty

Find a space where you can be still and focus.
To begin, follow the prompts below. When you reflect on scripture, feel free to look up a passage of your own or use the verses provided for you.

Thanksgiving: Offer thanks to God. What has He provided for you today? Talk to him about the traits He has for which you are thankful (e.g., powerful, kind, forgiving).
Praise: Father, I praise you for your consistent, stable nature. You do not change. You do not grow old or weak. You are timeless and powerful, full of love and truth. You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords! You are my refuge.
Reflect on Scripture: Psalm 102:24-28 (NIV); Psalm 17:6-8 (ESV)
24 So I said, “Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days;
your years go on through all generations.
25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.
28 The children of your servants will live in your presence;
their descendants will be established before you.”
6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
incline your ear to me; hear my words.
7 Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O Savior of those who seek refuge
from their adversaries at your right hand.
8 Keep me as the apple of your eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings.
The Lord’s Prayer: Walk through the prompts below, offering God your responses.
Help me submit to you, Father. I pray your will be done in my life and on earth as it is in heaven.
Thank you for remaining the same and that your years will never end. Nothing surprises you or is beyond your understanding. Thank you for listening to me. Help me remember I am living through a temporary season. Help me trust that you hold the world firmly in your hands, and that in the midst of it, you are my refuge.
Father, the world feels unstable and unpredictable. These are the parts of my life that feel uncertain: _____________________________.
Please be my rock in times of uncertainty and help me hold fast to you even though the world shifts and sways. Thank you that nothing can separate me from your love.
When I feel loss of control and the world offers less and less security, may I remember that You are truly in control of my life because I committed it to you. Help me find my security in you alone.
Today, I have need. Please provide _____________________________. Thank you for being a good Father who cares for his children and provides all they need.
I confess I am a sinner. Please forgive me for my sin of _____________________________.
Please help me forgive those who have sinned against me. Lord, because you have forgiven me, help me forgive _____________________________ for _____________________________. Thank you for forgiving my sins and empowering me to forgive others as you have forgiven me.
Thank you for delivering me from all evil. Today, I ask you to deliver me from _____________________________ for you are _____________________________.
May you be glorified in my life today and forevermore.
Thank you, God, that your kingdom is sure and unshakeable, and that by grace and love, I belong to it. When I don’t feel at home or safe in this world, help me remember that it is because I don’t belong here. You are my home, and you are my safe place. I am an ambassador shining a light and pointing the way to Jesus, who is even now preparing a new home for the family of God. And I belong there.
You, O Father, are full of power and strength and glory! There is none like you.
Neighbor Prayer: Spend a moment praying on behalf of any neighbors God lays on your heart.
Suggested Neighbor Prayer for: your immediate family; those who live with you
Lord, I pray for my family and the people who are closest to me—for children, roommates, spouses, best friends, parents.
Help me see and love them the way you do. Show me how to serve them in Christ’s love.
May home be a safe place to be physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. Lord, may what we dish out to each other be good things—grace, love, patience, gentleness, service, understanding, dignity, forgiveness—so that what we carry inside is good and holy, and so we can spread those good and holy things to the world when we all get to be together again.
May there be joy in this place, even on hard days, because nothing can take away the hope we have in you.
I pray I’m not too fearful or prideful to ask for help if our need is beyond what we can manage.
May we all find refuge in you and not in the things of this world. Keep us from taking comfort in our privilege and not in you alone.
Grow our hearts in thankfulness for one another and give us a deep, abiding security in being your children and knowing you are our Father.
Say a special prayer for your roommate or anyone in your immediate family who does not know Christ, that Jesus would reveal Himself to them and save them.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
